El descobridor

Vaig enviar la ment a caçar quelcom nou,
perquè ho trobés i atrapés als vells turons;
com el colom de Noè se n'anà
i com el colom de Noè tornà;
i mentre el vespre sobtat omple
tota la vall d'un misteri callat
compto les coses que em portà.

Un bri d'avet, un roc trencat,
remor de bens als llunyans turons
i una flor groga, em va portar;
no em dugué, doncs, cap novetat.
Però el silenci m'estremeix
mentre desplego aquell misteri

The discoverer

I sent my mind to hunt the new
And trap it on the ancient hills,
Like Noah's dove it went from me,
Like Noah's dove came back to me,
And while the sudden evening fills
The vale with quiet mystery
I count the things it brought to me.

A sprig of fir, a splintered rock,
The sound of sheep on distant hills,
A yellow flower it brought to me,
No new thillgs these it gave to me,
And yet even now the silence thrills
As I unfold a mystery
And see the new that comes to me.

Though firs are old, and rocks are old,
And old the yellow flowers, the wind
That sped the dove I sent from me,
Another dove has found for me,
Another dove, a different mind,
This is the new that comes to me.
